For 26 years, North Augusta has been the home of the Nike EYBL Peach Jam basketball tournament. This annual competition brings together the top male preparatory basketball players for the marquee event of the Elite Youth Basketball League. North Augusta was initially awarded the tournament due to the quality of the Riverview Activities Center. The excellence in staff support and community participation has kept the games returning for over two decades.
Sports tourism is a significant economic driver for North Augusta. The Peach Jam, softball, baseball, wrestling, and volleyball tournaments held at Riverview Park and in the Activities Center are responsible for thousands of hotel room stays. It results in $10 to $12 million of revenue generated for the regional economy each year. These events not only create local jobs but also help offset the cost of running a city through the sales tax revenue. They also help promote the community with its accommodations tax revenue.
It’s not just team sports that leave their mark. Events like the annual Palmetto Peach Half Marathon 10K and 5K profoundly impact the community as well. This annual running event held each year in November brings over 2,000 runners, as well as their friends and family, to North Augusta for this two-state race. The start is held in front of SRP Park in Riverside Village, runs along the Savannah River, down the North Augusta Greeneway, into Hammond’s Ferry, and then wraps on the Augusta GreenJackets baseball field at SRP Park. This well-organized event continues to grow in popularity.
North Augusta is an amenable community for our sports visitors. The bulk of the tournaments take place at Riverview Park and Activities Center. For families staying overnight, we have a selection of hotels just minutes from Riverview Park. There are multiple options for dining as well. Sit down and relax, or grab a bite on the go; you have plenty of options. Have some time to burn? There are several retail establishments nearby as well.
Riverview Activities Center has excellent facilities for basketball, wrestling, volleyball, pickleball, and even dog and cat shows. The same can be said for the baseball and softball complex at Riverview Park and the Soccer Complex.
When sports events are held in North Augusta, they present a perfect opportunity to showcase our community’s assets. We hope you’ll experience what makes North Augusta so unique.
